Please join us on this journey

How has Rwanda changed since the genocide of 1994?  What stories are told by the memorials throughout the country?  What is the perspective of ordinary Rwandans?  What was our own country's involvement in the conflict, both directly and indirectly?  How can the incredible journey of today's Rwandans humble, inspire, and empower us as we face our own challenges?

These are just some of the questions we hope to answer over the next month of travel and filming in Rwanda.  We are two young men from the United States of America--kindred spirits against all societal odds--who met for the first time in Rwanda and are now calling the rural town of Nyamata our home.  Our backgrounds are different, but our paths are the same.  We believe that love is the answer and that part of love is telling stories and giving a voice to the voiceless who have been shut out by official narratives.

We hope you will join us in our journey this month as we travel to genocide memorials throughout Rwanda with Rwandan friends we have met during our time here, as well as important sites in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Burundi.  Along the way, this will be our portal to you the viewer where we will post writings, photos, and video clips.  We sincerely hope you will actively participate in our process by providing feedback in the form of comments or e-mails.

Thank you for joining us, and may the stories of Rwanda be as much of a blessing to you as they have been and continue to be to us.

Peace and Love,
Reynolds Whalen and Amir Demeke
